About us

History

In the beginning, our restaurant seating capacity was just 25. In 2001 the name, Lelapa become known and we captured the attention of international chefs and food critics including Brian Turner of Carlton food network, who worked with us in our restaurant.

In 2002 we won the Emerging Tourism Entrepreneur of the Year award for the Western Cape, which took us to WTM London in the UK and ITB Berlin in Germany. We also won a Bronze Award at the Good Food and Wine Show, and, in 2005 we were one of the finalists for the Ethnic Caterer of the Year.

Today we can accommodate up to 100 guests in our home, but that does not end there because we are busy extending our venue to include a private dining area for three groups at a time.

Our focus is on providing our guests with great ambiance and an authentic township experience. We entertain our guests with a marimba band to accompany our delicious traditional menu. We involve them in the African tradition of storytelling by sharing the tales of our history with them.

We believe that our success lies in giving our guests a sense that they have entered into the warmth of Lelapa, the Home.
